Exercise is a highly under-rated thing when it comes to how good and effective it can be for reducing things like stress, anxiety and depression. Most people think that exercise and working out is solely for fitness, and of course, fitness is one of the biggest parts of it, but regular exercise is known to be great for boosting your mood and can really help with things like mood disorders and mental health conditions.
Meditation has been shown to have various benefits, not just on physical health, but mental health, too, and can really ensure you not only learn how to reduce stress in your life in other areas but that you can possibly even manage the anxiety when it does strike through meditation.
Cut back on alcohol
Alcohol is a tricky one because in our society it’s viewed as socially acceptable to drink as a way to celebrate good things happening, to have fun, and even for relaxation purposes, and whilst there’s no denying that we do feel more relaxed after a glass of wine or a few beers, it’s important to remember that alcohol is a depressant and has been proven to significantly increase symptoms of anxiety the next day, so this can quickly lead to things like addiction when those symptoms kick in and you want to get rid of them again. Not only this, alcohol addiction can then even lead to things like opiate addiction or other issues that really aren’t necessary and certainly aren’t going to help anxiety, so if you want to reduce anxiety, then cutting back on alcohol intake is one of the best ways to do this.
Eat a balanced diet
Food and health go hand in hand, so if you look at some of the diseases that we’re seeing happen at epidemic levels, you’ll notice a clear connection between those and the diets we’re eating – especially in western countries where things like cancers, obesity, diabetes and heart disease are at terrifying record highs. A balanced diet or whole foods can not only help with overall physical health, but with mental health, too, and certain foods even have been shown to boost mood, reduce anxiety and combat depression when consumed more in the diet.
