If you are working on a laptop or a desktop for a long time in the wrong posture, you would regularly experience upper back pain. Your spinal column is your body’s primary structural support, and a lot is riding on it.

The spinal column helps keep you stable enough to stand, along with enough flexibility for movement. With so much work in hand, there is no surprise that many people experience back problems regularly.

There are various causes of upper back pain. It can be from sore muscles, tendons, ligaments or fractures, herniated disks, and other problems. You may sometimes feel the pain right away, but upper back problems show up over time in some cases.

Heavy & Improper Lifting

If you are lifting anything heavy without caution and with poor body mechanics, you will be at risk for upper back pain and injury. For example, if you lift a heavy backpack that is overloaded, it can cause pain. Even when you don’t wear the backpack correctly, you are at risk for upper back pain.

Muscle Overuse

You may overuse your muscles when you repeat the same motions over time. It can be because of irritation, muscle strain, or tightness. If you ignore these signs, it can even turn into chronic pain. If you experience this pain, then find ways to avoid repeated actions where possible and take breaks in between work

Infection in the Spine

It is one of the rare cases that can cause upper back pain. Spinal abscess can swell and grow, which can lead to pain. The spinal epidural abscess is a collection of pus – a thick fluid containing dead tissue, cells, and bacteria and germs formed in the bones of the spine and spinal cord.

In these cases, the doctors will prescribe antibiotics or surgery based on the necessity and severity of the infection.
