  • Electronic Health Record (EHR)  

An EHR is an electronic database of patient information that is used across a healthcare organization to make it easier for all types of healthcare workers like clinicians, nurses, doctors, and pharmacists to work more efficiently. Electronic Health Records supported on devices such as computer carts improve the level of collaboration between healthcare workers. These also allow for greater accessibility of information to the patients and other key stakeholders. This database is designed to optimize the health of the patient and his or her caregivers. 

  • Electronic Medical Record Interoperability (EMRIA) 

An application that is specifically designed to transfer and exchange electronic health record information between health care providers, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other institutions. EMRIA was developed by the Health Information Technology Association, Inc. (HITI). HITI has been endorsed by the American Medical Information Association, Inc. (AMIA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AACCP). This type of software is used in almost all medical facilities. 

  • Electronic Medical Record Management (EMRMS) 

EMRMS is a system that enables authorized users to access, review, and update all or some portion of a patient’s medical’s digital information. EMRMS is the current industry-standard for managing healthcare information. It can be integrated with other computer software programs to facilitate workflow. Also, EMRMS can be used to generate reports and generate reminders. 

As more healthcare practices utilize these and other data-management applications, costs have continued to drop. Software applications can be purchased directly from the vendor or through third-party programs. In some cases, third-party vendors offer a complete range of applications, which can be tailored to the particular healthcare environment. 

 Many providers choose to partner with these third-party companies. This means that they pay a monthly fee in exchange for the use of the EMR and other related software. Many medical practices find that this arrangement is beneficial because it allows them to focus on providing care while their finances are stabilized. 

  • Digital Signage  

Digital signage is a subset of digital media. Digital screens use advanced technologies like LCD, LED, plasma, DLP, and e-ink to project video, audio, pop-up messages, real-time messaging, or even text. The signage is usually controlled by the software and is often displayed on a computer-readable screen. These signs can be used for different purposes in the healthcare sector, such as communicating with patients, visitors, and staff in the space instead of relying on traditional means of communication which may be slower. 

  • Medical Robotics  

A medical robot is a machine used in the field of medicine to assist surgeons and doctors in operating on patients. These are usually in the form of tele-manipulatives, which utilize the surgeon’s activators on one end to remotely control another end.  

This means the doctor can program the micro-robot to perform certain procedures, depending on the current state of the patient. These robots provide the surgeon with greater hands-on control. The surgeon simply has to key in information in the system about the procedure and follow through. For instance, if a surgeon wants to perform a heart transplant, he can just program the robot to execute certain parts of the procedure as digitally as possible. 

Such units will operate autonomously, saving the surgeon’s time and allowing them to focus on the more important parts of the surgery. As time goes by, these may even become a permanent fixture at any hospital since they will be able to help with surgeries that might otherwise be impossible.  

  • Digital Assessing Equipment 

Digital devices, on the other hand, allow practitioners to look into those areas where conventional techniques and medical equipment cannot reach. Some examples of such medical devices include computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, and mammography. 

 These diagnostic medical tools and devices are designed to help healthcare providers to make accurate diagnoses and provide personalized care for each patient. They are being used to treat conditions such as cardiovascular disease, renal disease, and gynecological disorders. They can be used in rehabilitation centers and special education settings as well. 

Some examples of digital devices include medical alert devices that allow doctors and patients to instantly know if someone is ill or injured. Digital x-ray machines have also become popular due to their low costs and ability to capture high-quality images of internal organs and other body areas.  

  • Virtual Software 

Another way how health care facilities are upgrading their equipment is through virtual reality software. This software allows patients to have a virtual tour of their entire medical facility at no cost. This allows patients to get a real feel for what life is like inside a health care facility before physically visiting. For example, they may see how doctors interact with each other and how different areas of the facility are organized and processed. 

  • Teleconferencing 

A common way of how health care facilities are upgrading their equipment is through teleconferencing. By allowing medical staff members from different parts of the facility to connect through a phone line, the entire facility will have access to the teleconferencing program. Teleconferencing allows for communication between the medical staff and patients as well as between departments to take place without meeting in person.  


Health sectors have since been upgrading their facilities by implementing various technical elements into the practice. Digital processing equipment such as EHR, EMRIA, and EMRMS make data collection and processing more efficient. Digital signage in healthcare facilities has also made the communication processes more transparent, making the workflow more productive.  

To put it simply, technology plays a vital part in the progression of healthcare services. It is an area that continues to advance because of the advantages that include productivity, efficiency, and resourcefulness.
